No Comfort Farm
14th March
Smoke is coming out of my ears.
A short while ago, I determined to finally read the classic Cold Comfort Farm, by Stella Gibbons. I mistakenly ordered a version of the same name by Oxford Bookworms.
Oxford Bookworms are supposed to be books for young readers, “Read your way to better English” they say. I took one look at the text and realised that this couldn’t possibly be the book people love so much. The writing was terrible. So I ordered the Penguin version. What a revelation that was!
I went back to the butchered Bookworm version. This was when I got mad. I can’t believe they serve up drivelly tripe like this to kids and pretend they’re reading classics. Compare:
The education bestowed on Flora Poste by her parents had been expensive, athletic and prolonged: and when they died within a few weeks … Read More »
New book Rainforest Country out now
9th March
Wildflower Country has a friend!
Pygmy Possum on the cover of our new book, Rainforest Country. Don’t tell me that’s not the cutest. A mouse-sized trembling under a leaf, bright cheeky bauble eyes, whiskers whiskering and pushy as a bulldozer. Someone to be reckoned with.
Rainforest Country is a companion to Wildflower Country, and includes photographs of wild fruits and plants as well as animals. Again, we’ve taken our techniques using focus stacking and macro photography and put them to good use in a book exploring a close up and detailed view of a dazzling part of the world. You can buy it on Fremantle Press‘ website, including a preview chapter.
Wholesale orders: Rainforest Country can be ordered from our publisher here.

Wildflower Country Windows
1st September
The beautiful Boffins Bookshop in Perth created some wonderful window displays celebrating the launch of Wildflower Country!
We ran a competition whereby people purchasing Wildflower Country could enter in the draw to win a limited edition fine art print of our Red Lechenaultia. We are very proud of this print—the detail in that rich red is fantastic.

Wildflower Country—Discovering Biodiversity in Australia’s Southwest
27th September
Our up-and-coming book entitled Wildflower Country—Discovering Biodiversity in Australia’s Southwest is well underway! All of the 166 pictures have been processed and are looking truly wonderful.
Wildflower Country is really a biodiversity story in wildflowers, and a grand opportunity to show off our hard-won skills in digital macro photography as well as the spectacular wave of flowering that occurs in Western Australia’s biodiversity hotspot. Most photographs are comprised of up to 20 exposures to achieve a wondrous depth of field and clarity. As far as we know, this is the first time anything quite like this has been done.
It’s been exciting work and we can’t wait to show it to everyone. Our book will be published in by Fremantle Press in Spring of 2010—synchronistically, the UN’s International Year of Biodiversity. All omens are good.
