Photography e-Books: Focus Stacking, HDRI, Macro Panoramas
Want to know how we do it?

Lemon-scented Darwinia
I think e-Books featuring the making of an image “from go to woah” would be valuable to a lot of people, with notes on focus stacking, HDR photography and decisions made along the way. For example, the making of a particular focus stacked picture of ours, and how it turned out looking like it did. Like looking over my shoulder as I make an image. We’d price them somewhere in the range of a photography magazine, and it would be a lot more instructive.
It’s certainly something I always wished to see from photographers I admire. If you think this is a good idea, or if there’s anything you’d particularly like to see, let us know in the comments.
For now, our new book Wildflower Country is the best example out there of the possibilities of focus stacking techniques put to their best use.

Hi, I have been a photographer since 1969 mainly PR, press work in Qld etc. Now I have more time I am trying to photograph what really interests me, wildlife, wildflowers, insects and spiders. Just one question. With your photo stacking. If you are photographing an insect, do you use flash as part of your lighting system?
I have just started photo stacking using Helicon Focus with moderate success just a few issues with lighting.
All the very best.

Yes, please do an e-book, can I pre-order
That is a marvellous idea, I have been into photography for about 18months and I was given your book “Wildflower Country” for my birthday and I was speechless, every time I turn the page, I see another breathtaking photo, again and again.
I really love macro, but mainly bugs and beetles and the sorts, I had never really tried to photography plants, flowers ect. After reading your book I was inspired, but without the focus stacking I was left disappointed with the results. I would really love to see what equipment you use and how to use it.
Congratulations on the Book it is amazing and I really look forward to seeing some e-books

I agree that your book contains the best examples of photostacking of Australian plants that there is- I have been trying to use this technique on Eastern Australian plants (growing in my garden) for the past 2 years – but do not come anywhere close to getting what you have achieved. Congratulations – well done. Col

Dear Stanely & Kaisa,
I have purchased your book “Wildflower Country” after seeing it recently in a photographic magazine. It takes macrophotography to a new level – you are to be both congratulated and thanked.
I would encourage you to produce the e-book or even better still run a course on workflow. I’ll be there in a flash!
I trust you haven’t been badly affected by Cyclone Yasi – and thoughts are with you at this time.

Hi Lyle,
We always photograph in natural light, and never use flash now. It is more difficult, but when it works it works beautifully. Plenty of our subjects fly or run off half way through a photo stack! That’s the way it is. Keeps you on your toes. Theoretically, flash should work, depanding on the recycling time, wethinks.
